When I'm not designing, you'll probably find me chasing after the next great dessert or halfway up a climbing wall. Sometimes I brainstorm quirky startup ideas and rope in my genius friends to help bring them to life. I also love helping my artist friends share their projects with the world, whether through design or any way that makes their work shine.
I also have a long-term project called Matriarchal Invention, where I make playful, simple riso prints. If you squint a little, you could even call it industrial design.
Curious about matriarchal design theory? Let’s talk!
Matriarchal Invention
I picked several public facilities in Mission Creek Park in San Francisco. The matriarchal quality I infused into them is “collaboration”.
Imagine in this park, every facility is designed to encourage collaboration. Seesaw benches that you can only enjoy the view with another person sitting with you; bike lamps that your labor will supply the electricity for the community.
How would you react, and what would you be?
Step-Sit
This project features a design that creates a sense of unsettlement between the familiar and the unfamiliar.
You see this stool, but you don't know how to describe it. It’s a stool. It’s a step? It strikes you as familiar, yet it's not any kind of thing you're familiar with.
Tools II
This performance art piece reflects the years I spent immersed in the college studio.
It embodies my life as an industrial design student, where I was constantly exploring new ways to use the tools and materials around me.
